Maikel van der Vleuten: ''Maastricht, there you want to be as a rider!''

Jumping Indoor Maastricht kicks off on Friday, November 8th. One of the top competitors on the list of participants of the 4* competition is Maikel van der Vleuten. He won bronze at the Olympic Games in Paris and competes in the biggest jumping shows in the world. He likes to put JIM in his agenda every year.

A family full of jumping talent
Maikel comes from a real horse family, with Eric van der Vleuten Sr as father and younger brother Eric Jr who is also active in show jumping. He already celebrated great international successes. You may know him from the now retired stallion VDL Groep Verdi TN, with whom he won team silver and European gold at the London Olympic Games in 2015. His partner in Paris this year was Beauville Z N.O.P. who also won Olympic bronze in Tokyo.

Topsport of the highest level
Maikel is looking forward to participating in the MECC, just like international Dutch top riders such as Kim Emmen, Willem Greve and Lars Kesten. “Many colleagues have JIM high on their list. It is sport of the highest level, but with the conviviality of 'us knowing us'. It is a special event that is enjoyed not only by horse lovers, but also by people who are less familiar with the sport. The atmosphere is fantastic and the facilities are top notch, also for the horses.”

Grand Prix of Maastricht: a highlight
The entire weekend is filled with exciting jumping classes, but the absolute highlight is the CSI4* Grand Prix of Maastricht on Sunday, November 10th. This spectacular competition over 1.55m with jump-off starts at 3.30 pm. Last year Maikel led the lap of honor, cheered on by an enthusiastic audience. “The horse I rode at the time, Luigi d'Eclipse, has now been sold, but I will do my best to finish at the top again in 2024!”
