The MECC is the place to be the coming days. From Friday, the first show jumping riders will enter the arena for Jumping Indoor Maastricht. Many big names have included this 4* competition in their busy schedules; riders like to come to the atmospheric MECC. For the 33rd time, the riders and their horses allow the public to enjoy beautiful and exciting equestrian sports.
Top riders can choose from major competitions every weekend, but a large number of well-known names are coming to Maastricht. The entire top three from last year's Grand Prix is present. Maikel van der Vleuten, who won this most important class last year and won individual bronze at the Olympic Games this year, will certainly try to finish at the top again.
In a winning mood
Maikel's Olympic teammate Harrie Smolders is also going for the prizes, as are former world champion Jeroen Dubbeldam, Marc Houtzager and Willem Greve, the winner of the Grand Prix of Friesland last weekend. He takes his stallion Highway TN N.O.P. along, who is in top form.
Dutch top riders
There are even more appealing names from our own country on the list of participants. What to think of Bas Moerings, Hessel Hoekstra, Leopold and Mathijs van Asten, and rider Tani Joosten? Kim Emmen, who impressed in Paris as a member of the Orange team, is also always good for beautiful rounds and will do her utmost to win prizes.
International competition
A large number of international top riders from approximately twenty countries will try to make it difficult for the Dutch delegation. Among them are Pieter Devos, Wilm Vermeir and Thibault Philippaerts from Belgium, the fast Roger Yves Bost from France, Hans-Dieter Dreher, Katrin Eckermann and Michael Jung from Germany. The Irish riders Shane Breen and Denis Lynch also provide fireworks when it comes to the fastest time. Laura Kraut from the United States will bring her best horses, as will the Limburg-based Brazilian Yuri Mansur.
Grand Prix of Maastricht
Seven top riders from Limburg will participate in their 'home competition'. For example, come and cheer on Lars Kersten (Egchel) and Sanne, Mans and Mel Thijssen (Baarlo)! They also participate in the various jumping categories. The highlight is the CSI4* Grand Prix of Maastricht, in which a course with obstacles up to 1.55 m must be overcome. The clear combinations compete in the jump-off for places of honor and the prize pool. This section is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 3:30 PM.
Exciting WorldCup
JIM is proud to welcome the four-in-hand drivers again. The Four-in-hand World Cup competition, the only one in the Netherlands, guarantees excitement and thrills on Friday and Saturday evening. Bram Chardon, Koos de Ronde and last season's overall World Cup winner, Boyd Exell, among others, will compete against each other.
Regional sport, youth and show
Not only the world's top will be present in Maastricht. As every year, youth are also fully catered for, with the JIM School Morning on Friday, the Havens Pony Cup and the Jimmy Afternoon on Saturday, and the Limburg Riding School Battle on Sunday morning. Expect eye-catching and sensational shows from Anne-Gaelle Bertho, the mini-steeple and the Josh Clemens Stunt Team.
