Bas Moerings at Formula 1-Speed to Van Mossel Prize

At full throttle, Bas Moerings raced to victory in the four-star 1.50m Van Mossel Prize aboard Kivinia. It was an exciting class with top riders and a technical course providing its fair share of challenges.

Six combinations qualified for the jump-off, and as the only Dutch rider, Moerings received extra support from the enthusiastic home crowd. "Kivinia is like a Formula 1 car. I have a brake on the left and right and only need to steer. There's no need to accelerate because the engine is always running at 9,000 RPM," Bas Moerings laughs. The rider will be competing again on Sunday with another horse from the Moerings fleet: "Tomorrow I’ll ride the Grand Prix with Ipsthar, and that horse has quite a powerful engine as well!"

International podium
French rider Nina Mallevaey, aboard the 11-year-old Dynastie de Beaufour, offered some serious competition but ultimately had to settle for second place.

The third position was claimed by Germany’s Katrin Eckermann and her 11-year-old mare Chao Lee. Annelies Vorsselmans peformed two strong and clear rounds with C.Kulottie W Z. It earned the Belgian rider the fourth place. Victor Bettendorf is having strong show in Maastricht. The rider from Luxembourg already secured several placements this weekend and placed fifth tonight with the eight-year-old Kenia Heureka Z.
