Gilberto Sayão Da Silva convincingly claims victory in the Marli Hommel Prize

The Friday morning of Jumping Indoor Maastricht 2025 kicked off with a strong international win. Brazilian rider Gilberto Sayão Da Silva took the Marli Hommel Prize in convincing fashion with his twelve-year-old mare Kan Kan du For.

Sayão Da Silva had two strong cards to play in the fast CSI1 1.20m competition. With Kan Kan du For, he clocked the winning time to secure the victory, while his second horse also delivered an impressive fifth-place finish.

The Dutch riders kept the pressure on: Manon van der Sluis rode her only six-year-old Toulouse to a fine second place, followed by Anne Bakker with her seven-year-old gelding Goldy, who completed the podium.

The Brazilian, who is based in London and Belgium, clearly enjoyed his first participation at Jumping Indoor Maastricht:

“I rode my other horse first, so I knew the course quite well. With Kan Kan, I don’t even have to think about speed—she’s naturally incredibly fast. This is only our second show together, but honestly, she’s much better than I am,” the winner laughed. “Unfortunately, this was my last class here this week because I’m heading home today. But Jumping Indoor Maastricht is truly a fantastic event—my compliments to the organizers. It was my first time here, and I’ll definitely be back next year, hopefully for the entire weekend.”
