Mart IJland Scores a Double Victory in the MECC Prize: “It Doesn’t Get Any Better”

Mart IJland is in unstoppable form this weekend. Riding his eight-year-old stallion Quo Vadis, he stormed to victory for the second day in a row. The 1.35m MECC Prize turned out to be a repeat performance of Saturday morning’s 1* class. Alicia Bocken once again had to settle for second place, while Liam Deery flew the Irish flag proudly in third, just like the day before.

“The jump-off really suited my horse. Quo Vadis is very careful, and the line from the first to the second fence felt great, so I just went with the flow. Yesterday’s win made me hungry for more, once you’ve done it once, you want to do it again. Of course, you also need a bit of luck, and this weekend, everything fell into place! I couldn’t have wished for a better JIM debut. Hopefully, I’ll be back next year, and the bar is already set high,” said Mart IJland with a smile.

The podium was identical to Saturday morning’s top three. Alicia Bocken, riding her eight-year-old mare Dalicia Devine Z, delivered another sharp, focused jump-off but once again had to yield to IJland. Ireland’s Liam Deery was the only rider able to challenge the Dutch dominance, finishing third aboard the nine-year-old stallion Kesmitt DMH from Stal Berkhof, which celebrated having two of its riders on the podium for the second day running.
